Ways to Spice Up Your Life (Or Maybe Just Your Day)
- Learn a Foreign Language. I am giving it a try this summer. I am registering for a non-credit, Basic Chinese course at the local community college. I am doing this just for fun, but who knows where it could lead.
- Learn Sign Language. This is another non-credit class I want to take soon.
- Laugh More: Watch a really super-silly, slapstick comedy from the ’70s or ’80s. Some ideas: Foul Play, Spaceballs, Monty Python, Rollerboogie, Get Smart, Grease 2, Airplane. There are a ton of them!
- Try to find the right balance between being happy with you are, and becoming who you want to be.
- Diversify Your Musical Listening Experience: Listen to online radio stations, find music-related blogs, browse large music stores. Try to step outside of your usual genres and artists. You just might discover some new favorites.
- Take a weekend trip. Spice it up by trying to change your scenery, even if for just one night.
- Visit your own town as if you were a tourist. Go to the “tourist traps” that, as a local, you would normally avoid like the plague. Take a guided tour. Pick up some travel brochures. You just might discover something new, or you might see things a different perspective.
- Read blogs on a variety of topics. Follow links to other blogs and websites that you think might be interesting. Read the articles, but also look at the site from an aesthetic viewpoint. Take in all of the colors, styles, layouts, photos, and videos.
- Check out a variety of podcasts. They are available on nearly any topic you can imagine. They might range from a novice podcaster to a more professional speaker. Who knows, you may decide that you would like to try podcasting yourself! If this is the case, you might want to check out Podcasting Underground.
